Anywhere Convertible Pants 4.4 5 11 11
Good, not great I bought a pair of these convertible pants for a trip to Israel, Egypt, and Jordan. They do have some drawbacks. The short length is quite short for anyone over 30 and definitely too short for places requiring the knees to be covered such as a mosque. The belt buckle showed up on airport x-ray causing a trip to get patted down and searched. Unfortunately, the buckle is sewn in and could NOT be removed! I later cut the sewn end and removed the buckle. The buckle itself is rather poorly designed and came open rather easily. My pair only had ONE accesory belt loop making it very hard to wear with any other belt. The double button closure is very secure but slow and a little clumsy to use. The pants dried quickly and were quite comfortable to wear otherwise. I would recommend these to others but they definitely need some changes. September 27, 2011
Bad Buckle Overall, nice design and comfortable material however, the buckles on the 2 pairs I bought were poorly made and would not stay latched. A deep breath or minimal movement caused the buckle to pop loose. Replaced them with $1 buckles from local sporting good store. June 5, 2011
Versatile, sturdy I own several of these pants and the non-convertible Anywhere pants as well. They dry quickly, so they are outstanding rain gear. Surprisingly, they are very sturdy, being immune to scraping or tearing. They are, of course, lightweight and versatile. The zippers work very well. No buttons or stitching have come loose. As to improvements: The fly should close with a snap rather than buttons, for convenience sake. The waistband and belt should be heftier. And there should be a second rear pocket. With those improvements, my rating would soar somewhere above the five star limit. December 8, 2010
Please, don't discontinue My husband has been wearing these for leisure and travel for years. They are his favorite pants. Please, don't discontinue these!! November 12, 2010
Good to go I've worn my regular anywhere pants for years. They are the best travel pants I've ever had and I can't understand why they are not available anymore??? If these pants, that have the same feel and fit as my others, hold up and wear as well I will be as completely satisfied as I have been with the regulars. November 5, 2010
Second Best Pants from Travelsmith These pants are nearly perfect; I would have given them five stars if it were not for the simple fact that they are "convertible" pants. If you are looking for convertible pants, then they are perfect, but if you simply want the most comfortable casual pants ever, you should wear the regular Anywhere Pants. As someone whose wardrobe includes fifteen pairs of supplex shorts (my spring, summer, fall, and travel uniform: Aloha shirt and supplex shorts or supplex TravelSmith Anywhere pants), I don't need more shorts, I need great pants! The regular Men's Anywhere Pants actually look and wear like real, casual pants. I have worn no other long pants for over ten years. They are incredibly light weight, but they are not flimsy like most "nylon" pants. They are supplex, so they dry almost instantly; they are nearly wrinkle free. They have very clean lines, a built-in belt, ordinary pants pockets. Unfortunately, I have just been notified by Customer Service that these pants are being phased out. That's why there are practically no sizes and colors available. As an alternative, I tried the Anywhere Convertible Pants (you know, shorts with zip-on leggings as shown above). These actually do fit and feel very much like the regular Anywhere Pants, but they have these silly zippers half way down the leg, making the pants much heavier, and, of all things, making them constrict right above the knee. The anywhere Convertible Pants are a disappointing second best, and for all I know, they are probably being phased out, too, since they are obviously the same pair of pants with the legs cut in half! The tragedy is that none of TravelSmith's other pants even come close. Customer service suggested the New Horizons Pants, but just look at them. They have seven pockets all over the place, most of which have zippers. No way can they pass for anything but cargo, travel pants. They have a draw string and belt loops, and, I repeat, a bunch of zippered pockets everywhere—great for the bush, but rather ridiculous for dinner in a nice restaurant. The Anywhere Pants really can be worn ANYWHERE, and I encourage all the customers who have loved these pants over the years (or who have never tried them but want to experience the most comfortable and versatile pants in the world) to call for TravelSmith to reinstate them. Nothing in their catalog (nor the catalogs of LL Bean, REI, Patagonia, etc.), not even these very good, but second best, convertible pants, compare! June 26, 2010
Best value These pants are the absolute best. Have two pair and have taken them around Europe and the western U.S. I now take no other pants as these fill the need for shorts, walking, and moderate dress for restaurants. Wash in the shower and dry in minutes. Zippered pocket allows for extra security. Good job. June 11, 2010
Great item for variable weather Because my husband has liked wearing his regular nylon Anywhere Pants, I bought him 2 colors of the convertibles. They are a great addition to his travel wardrobe, as we were able to pack lightly for northern Scotland and were ready for warm AND cool weather. May 29, 2010
