Men's Craghoppers Kiwi Pants 4.1 5 41 41
Design limitations The fabric is lightweight, comfortable for long-day into the evening wear, sunscreen protected, and washes and dries very well. But there are some significant design constraints. First, as others had noted, the four zip pockets are all too small. The back two are so small that I can't get my hand very far into them and I'm medium size and build. The other issue is the belt. The included belt is thin. The belt loops will accommodate a 1 3/4 " web belt for heavy duty carry, which is the most likely choice for a utility pant. However, the wide belt makes using the pocket zippers very difficult. In an emergency, I would never get the pocket open to utilize it's contents. Additionally, one interior pocket was not sewn fully, and required hand sewing before use. Thus the rating of only two stars. Sadly, it just didn't live up to my expectations. February 23, 2015
Expect they will be great travel pants Light weight but not ultralight. Lots of secure pockets March 18, 2015
Great Buy Better than any top name brand hiking/working pants. January 18, 2015
disappointing pants When I received them they looked great for fabric, sizing and features. The first time that I wore them I discovered the main side pockets are too shallow -- coins, pocket knife, etc. fell out when I sat down. I have worn them 3 times in town (no stress) and washed them once. Threads have started to break and seams (bottom of pocket, zipper and leg) have started to open. The thread appears to be weak and tension was apparently wrong on the sewing machine June 9, 2012
Crag Hopper threads Nice pants that fit well & feel good agains my skin. Good value for the money but not perfect. Front pockets are a bit shallow but it is easy to use the zippered front pockets instead. There were many untrimmed threads, pulled bobbin threads & one Merrow seam protecting cut fabric that ran right off the material. There was an open corner seam on the cell phone pocket inside the thigh pocket All got repaired when the cuffs were sized with less than 15 minutes added. The material handles well in a sewing machine or with a handheld needle.. March 27, 2014
Great pants for travel This is the second pair of these pants for me. I wore the first pair almost exclusively during a 6 week adventure in Ecuador and the Galapagos. They are well organized with enough pockets including two zipper pockets that made me feel more comfortable in high pick-pocket areas. They washed easily and dried quickly. My main criticism is that the side seam pockets are a little too shallow and I lost my space pen because of this. But after adjusting to using the zipper pockets behind these, I was okay with that shortcoming! On the first pair I received, there was a sewing mistake on one of the pockets that missed their inspectors. Fortunately, TravelSmith's policies made exchanging them very easy! I have begun wearing these instead of jeans or khakis for everyday - not just for travel. Highly recommend! September 10, 2013
Greatest pants ever I bought my first pair about a year go. I have now bought 5 additional pairs. Four are unlined and very good looking and they fit very well. I bought 1 lined pair and as soon as wearing them 1 day in northern Michigan I immediately sent for another. Security pockets are great for travel and for - well security. The cargo pocket holds my phone and my i-pad mini so I have hands free. I love these pants. I have a lot of other pants in my closet, but they stay in my closet. I wear these almost exclusively now. Good except for zipper I bought these for a 10-day barnstorming non-stop excursion around Europe. I ordered a 36 waist with regular length. The waist was fine but the regular length was a little longer than the usual 32-ish I wear. That required them to be hemmed, and the crotch was a little too low. They were very comfortable though. One of the reasons I thought they'd be good is that they'd dry quickly if I washed them in a sink. I'll never know because I never washed them the entire 10 days I was travelling. They held up well and didn't show much staining, even after a waitress dumped an entire Irish coffee on my leg. The leg pocket is perfect for maps, a passport or other paperwork, and the little pockets inside that pocket were great for pens, glasses, etc. I wish it had a similar pocket on the left leg. Having both an open slash pocket and zippered side pocket is fantastic. You can zip up your wallet and still have an open pocket for small change and other items. About the zipper, which is my only complaint. I constantly used the one on my left side and I found at times that I had to hold the bottom of the zipper with my right hand to zip it up with my left. There was also some fraying of the stitching around the pocket after 10 days of zipping and unzipping. Even with the zipper issue, I can recommend these pants. They are more comfortable and functional than some other travel pants I own and significantly less expensive. June 8, 2012
