Classic Full-Length Microfiber Big Shirt 4.3 5 159 167
Good for year-round travel! Needed a lightweight garment but concerned about whether it would wear well for long hours sitting (airplane, terminals, auto). Pluses: a) Didn't show wrinkles (1st outing - 18 hrs+ of travel). b) The "purple wine" color is versatile and 'true' to illustrations. c) Lightweight and comfortable. Great sale this week; plan to order another color. November 12, 2012
Could have been made better For some reason, clothing makers think that when you gain weight and go into a plus size that somehow, your ARMS GET LONGER. What's with that anyway? Sleeves are WAY too long on my 2x. And the blouse would be so much nicer if they didn't cut the bottom off of it and then re attach it with a big ugly seam. Totally ruins the fluid look. As if they ran out of fabric and then patched it back together with scraps. This really shows on the light color if you wear a dark bottom. Wish I'd returned it but it was too much bother. It's a beauty! I just purchased my 4th big shirt. The first three are petite large and are a little too big. The 4th time I decided to try a Petite Medium. Much better! I love the shirts. They feel great next to my skin and somehow feel "luxurious" too. The colors are beautiful. I have navy, crimson, purple and aqua. Yes, I would recommend the shirt, but it is very long, even in Petite. September 22, 2012
Great product needs tweaking This is a wonderful idea that somehow went astray. I own a few of these shirts, but the one I purchased most recently seemed cheaper and did not fit as well. I am very disappointed. Also, the buttons are too large, and having white bottons on all of the colors is cheap and tacky. I used permanent marker to try to darken them, but that didn't work too well. Please, please improve this shirt. The idea is too good, and you are too good a company to be satisfied with less than the best. September 17, 2012
MEASURING TAPES DON'T LIE & THE FABRIC IS AWFUL I have been a customer for many years now and have had 10 of these, 5 large, 5 extra large. I originally ordered large but gained weight and had to go up to the xl. I gave away all the larges but kept the black one because I couldn't bear to part with my all-time favorite shirt, bar none. I recently lost 20 lbs. and gave away all the xl's cause they swam on me, and I finally got back into the large black that I had saved - fit perfectly! So I ordered a couple of new ones in large and tried one on several times but I just couldn't make it out of the house with it on, something just was not right. I got an email today saying they were on sale and out of curiosity went to the reviews and I see that I was right - they are not the same at all. The lapis that I tried on has been hanging now for a couple of weeks and it still has fold wrinkles. I just got out my measuring tape and put the large black original one on a flat surface, put the lapis on top, both fully buttoned. The difference in sizing is INCREDIBLE!! The new one is 1 1/2 inches NARROWER IN THE SHOULDERS, a full 1/2 inch NARROWER FROM THE SLEEVE TO THE BOTTOM! That means it is a FULL INCH more narrow top to bottom. That is a big deal in THE BUST, which means it is a full ONE INCH SMALLER across because I measured it flat SO YOU DOUBLE IT - ONE INCH SMALLER IN THE BUST is a HUGE difference to a full-busted female. It is also ONE INCH LONGER when it did not need to be any longer. I was considering returning the 2 new larges I got and getting some xl's and have them tailored to fit, but after sensing the fabric was not the same, and after reading these reviews, both are going back and I won't be ordering more until this problem is fixed. And the buttons are much bigger (they were already on the large size) and appear shinier and cheaper. What a shame that a wonderful basic piece in my wardrobe for years now has been ruined. I am just SICK over this and have to find a replacement from someone else, if it even exists. Thankfully I also couldn't part with the black xl I had, now I can go get it tailored to fit so I will have at least one good shirt - the older large is getting too worn to wear out anymore. Hate the buttons Why would you put such ugly white buttons on such gorgeous shirts? I've bought many things from TS over the years and found the quality and value to be excellant. I have tried to like this shirt....but the ugly white buttons are just too much of a contrast on the beautiful colors of these shirts. It can't be that much more expensive to have a dyed to match button. These aren't cheap shirts they deserve a nice button. August 20, 2012
Great potential that went wrong This shirt had great potential, but something went wrong with the fabric. I found, just as others have that it wrinkles badly; and no amount of ironing removed the original creases. I bought eight of them based on my experience with Travel Smith’s earlier microfiber shirts which were fabulous, but they proved to be a bad choice for me. I have given up trying to smooth these and will return them with the hope that Travel Smith will get the kinks worked out and once again offer the wonderfully wearable originals. Personally, I dislike the babyish, sloppy look of current trend, and rejoice when I find practical pieces at Travel Smith that have a little polish and more flattering lines. I think the market is huge for a well-fitting, easy care microfiber shirt in a more complete range of neutrals, as well as other lovely rich colors. It seems short-sighted though not to offer all colors in all sizes. The yellow undertones are popular now, though unflattering to many like me, and it is discouraging not to find black, navy, grays and more colors of cool undertones. I am also baffled that the market for short and tall “plus sizes” has not been seized. In order to get a good fit, I have to tailor most pieces. A great microfiber shirt with insightful attention to easy care details, and additional versions like a banded or mandarin collar, 3/4 sleeves, maybe some sophisticated prints (not insipid florals), would give limitless versatility. It would source 98% of my wardrobe needs! I remain a loyal and appreciative customer, Travel Smith is a good source for stylish apparel, with great customer service, but there’s room for improvements that could grab a big piece of business.
