Hybrid Travel Jacket 3.8 5 77 79
Great for travel; not a fashion statement The best that can be said for this jacket is that it is very good for travel and you won't stand out as a tourist--perhaps a Bosnian refugee, but not a tourist. You can wad it up in a ball, give it two shakes, and it's ready to hit the road again. The material is some kind of chemical mix with the advertised silky suede feel, but for the most part (for me) it was a handy vehicle for plenty of pockets; some of which had hidden zippers. It was just light enough for average outdoor temperature but did protect from the evening cool during the summer. After a 14-hour flight and you don't know what time it is (or even day), all I wanted was a secure place for my 'papers' that would get me through customs--coming and going. My travel jacket did a great job. This kind of jacket is a great alternative to a 'safari jacket' that advertises you as a tourist, ivory smuggler--or worse yet, a TV journalist. The "hidden" interior pull cord was never employed for a fit improvement, but I doubt it would have made much difference. This (let me repeat) is not a fashion statement--it's just a good summer weight jacket with lots of pockets and easy to maintain. Wash it up in the sink, hang it overnight, and it's all set. Runs Very Large I ordered a Large Long, and at 6' 4" with wide shoulders and an athletic frame at 195 lbs. It could have been a winner - except for the extra material in the mid section width and sleeve length that hangs to mid-thumb. I feel safe in saying this jacket runs large. The jacket is a good concept for the money, even if it is a bit casual, just watch the sizing. A medium tall might have worked if there was such a thing. July 12, 2014
I have it in every colour. "Fashion statement"? THIS IS NO FASHION STATEMENT, blared one customer. He loved the item. But he seemed embarrassed by its cut. Maybe he hoped to make a different first impression, wearing this. Maybe he's a mannequin. I travel internationally to speak, as an expert in my field. This jack is PERFECT in that role. You look like you spend time in airports (you do). You don't look like a right-wing conservative cookie cutter spit you onto the sidewalk that morning (it didn't: other wing). And it comes in a useful # of colours. September 1, 2014
good casual jacket reasonably good fitting jacket, light and works well for travel....i'm 5'11" and 210 with large chest but average waist....perhaps a little on the long side and i needed to shorten the sleeves....the xxl was like a tent so i stuck with the xl.... September 2, 2014
Was less than expected Was looking for travel jacket to use for locations that require one. Jacket was rather shoddy, price should have warned me. Returned it to TravelSmith. August 22, 2014
It is what it is... great Packs wonderfully (16 oz.), fast drying, minimum wrinkles, great pocket storage, colors leave me wanting ( slate would suit me). The price should frame the product - $109 / 119. The fit is loose, its a style - If you want tailored, buy Dior. August 18, 2014
attractive, and good value The microfibre material is useable for a number of different purposes, from relaxed to more dressy. I have had a couple of similar jackets from TravelSmith over the years, and they are a good value. The adjustment cord in back does make for a flattering fit, if one is not carrying too many extra pounds! August 15, 2014
For Big Men First off, I was impressed with the features and the concept behind this jacket, and convinced enough by the excellent reviews to give it a try. Comments about the sizing were a concern, though. I ordered the dark olive color in medium. The color is great: a dark, subtle hue that will blend with just about anything. Nice fabric. Light weight. A bunch of secure pockets. Sadly, the fit was far from a true medium. Compare my measurements with Travelsmith's sizing chart: Shirt size: 15.5" neck, 34" sleeve. Chest size: 41". Waist: 34". According to Travelsmith, I should be on the large end of the medium size. I'm 5'11" and slim, overall, but I have some belly. Wrapping the jacket until it fit my waist/chest comfortably, there were three inches of slack. The overall length of the jacket was about two inches too long, and the shoulders and neck were a bit big -- though the sleeves were OK. I looked like a kid in his dad's sport coat. Cinching up the adjustable back just made it look like a dress. Allowing for layering is smart, but even a heavy sweater would make little difference in the fit. Besides, this is an ideal weight jacket for warmer weather and t-shirts. Big men will love this jacket. If Travelsmith made this to fit true sizing, or with a more "European" cut that flattered slimmer figures, it would be an awesome product for the rest of us. I was looking for the ideal jacket for an upcoming trip to Europe, and this jacket's features and styling -- on paper -- were the best I found. Disappointed, I sent it back for a refund.
