Rain Trench

Rain every day for two years
I bought this for my son to wear during his two year LDS Mission to Taiwan. He wrote many times how thankful he was for the raincoat which was truly waterproof, unlike many other missionaries whose coats were only water resistant. He has had to cope with two years of rain while walking or bike riding around Taipei. As a missionary Mom I appreciate Travel Smith offering a product that protected my son during his two years of service! I just bought another for my Nephew who will be serving in Mexico!

Great purchase!
So I'm a California transplant now living in NYC! I wanted to get a large, comfortable coat that I could wear over a suit that would keep me warm. This coat with button-in liner is GENIUS!
It's waterproof, comfortable, warm and (best of all) can be folded down to make it fit into a small pouch. Perfect for travel and layering, especially in a place where the weather changes by the minute.
Great purchase and highly recommended!

Frustrating Search Ended Here
After an exhaustive internet search for a black trench coat for my son, the Oboe Performance Major--I found the perfect one at TravelSmith! Other retailers offered very limited selections: They were out of their advertised "specials", they were out of the size I was looking for, their coats were either cheap-looking or prohibitively expensive. Many sites didn't offer trench coats in black, and amazingly very few were water resistant--sort of defeating the purpose with all the rain they get in Philly where he goes to school. This coat is great for day wear & perfect for evening. It's packable & it fits over a tuxedo, which is what my son required. He gets SO many compliments on the trench coat & is happy to say we got it at TravelSmith.

Excellent but with minor issues
It's light weight and the optional liner gives you the option to make it warm for cold weather or cool for summer showers. It's very good for traveling between climates. When I don't want to wear it I strap it onto my carry on and it comes of with nary a wrinkle.
The khaki version is very light in color and shows dirt easily. After only a few uses the fold of the collar (where it touches your neck) looked soiled. If you don't want to have it cleaned frequently, get the black version. (Would be nice if they had it in an olive green).

Nice, but immediately started falling apart
This is a nice jacket. It's light, it's waterproof, it fits well, and with the optional liner is nice and warm. Unfortunately after a couple of weeks of wear one of the buttons came off, and another button is about to. For the price, I expected it to last a little longer before having to take it in for repair.
