Shawl-Collar Raincoat 3.8 5 23 25
Nice raincoat The only reason I didn't give this a 5-star rating is that one of the tabs ... to fasten the hood underneath my chin ... tore or broke the very first time I wore it and now I'll need to mend it. Otherwise, the coat was a good value; the hood came in handy when it rained; I felt the pockets were deep enough to hold what I needed; the coat kept me dry and didn't wrinkle. One thing, however - it runs very large and I had to return the first one for a smaller size. It is nice and roomy, yet didn't weigh much; I had purchased it for an international trip and with various things carried underneath (when it was raining) - i.e. a camera, my beltbag, etc., it did a great job of concealing and protecting all of them. great color My main criterion for a raincoat is that it is red, hence this is a replacement for a 15 yr old one. Why red is so hard to come by is a mystery. The sleeves are a bit long, but the rest is fine. Haven't tested it out in the rain yet...fits well, a bit baggy as a raincoat should be to go over the rest of ones clothing. As the saying goes - there is no bad weather, there is only inappropriate clothing. April 3, 2013
Great RainCoat I love this coat. The fabric is soft and drapes nicely. It is comfortable to wear and the length is perfect. I bought mine on sale which was great; however, I wasn't able to get the color I wanted but am satisfied with what I got. April 1, 2013
an almost-perfect coat Have owned two of these, worn all over the world, stuffed 'em into corners and splattered with mud, to emerge just fine. A scarf fancies it up and waterproof-ness is unmatched. The new pocket design is, however, terrible: too shallow, and no fastener so hotel key or gloves or camera can slip right out. The hood helps replace an umbrella, and is essential. (Wish the shorter belted trench had one too!) March 2, 2013
Great coat, too bad about the pocket change I own two TS raincoats (long purple from 2007, short burgundy from 2008) and wanted a color change so ordered a long red. I went down a size as the previous L is very roomy. The new red is much shorter, still fairly shapeless but is a fabulous rain coat. But... TS changed the pockets! Previously the pockets were deep enough for gloves, keys and even a mini umbrella. Now the pockets are so shallow my gloves won't fit much less an umbrella and I'm afraid my keys will fall out. So while I still love the coat, it won't work for travel. March 12, 2012
Love this one- will get another when it wears out I travel to London on business, and this is my staple. I fold it tight and put it in its pouch, sling it over my shoulder and use it for a pillow on overnights to Heathrow. When I shake it out, no wrinkles and it's roomy enough to wear layers underneath. My only complaints are the hood is huge, but I cinch it in with the drawstring- no big deal; and it's not very fashionable- which I take care of with colorful scarves. When the sun (rarely) comes out while I'm working in London, this raincoat folds into the travel pouch easily and I wear it over my shoulder when running to catch the tube or train. Wonderful material that dries quickly breathes, and is easily cleaned with a lint brunsh!!! Liners are good for winter months if you don't want the bulky layers of clothing too. Thank you Travel Smith. March 3, 2012
It's OK The coat runs a little large and is particularly full in the middle; a belt would be useful to pull in the mid-section for a better look. I purchased the button-in lining to go with the coat & it'd be helpful if the lining sleeves had velcro or could be buttoned into the coat sleeves because depending upon what I'm wearing, the lining sleeves turn inside out too easily. Not as water proof as I'd like, either; can feel the damp coming thru though water can be shaken off easily from the coat & it dries quickly. The shawl collar curls up so put the coat on and check yourself in the mirror before going out. February 27, 2012
Less than before I bought this to replace a beloved TravelSmith raincoat I'd had for many years. The available style and fabric have changed for the worse. I wasn't bothered particularly by the shapelessness since I am now old and shapeless, but the neckline is so low cut that a scarf is essential and the hood, my purpose in buying such a raincoat, either falls off or obscures my vision. My recommending this coat would depend on what the other person was looking for. Even on sale, it is pricey for a dowdy product. February 13, 2012
