Snowflake Alpaca Cape 4 5 9 9
Just be careful I received this wrap for Xmas and I love how it looks. The wool is excellent quality, the colors are vibrant, and the weight is perfect. So why only 3 stars? Because of the lovely snowflake pattern on the front, the back has a loose weave that is prone to snagging. That is because the yarn from one color of the pattern has to run for maybe an inch before being used in another part of the pattern. A weaver could better express this, I know. But the bottom line is that these long lengths of yarn can be easily snagged and pulled. I mean really easily. To deal with this, I bought a crochet hook and have started weaving in the lengths of pulled yarn whenever I encounter a new one. So, even though you will get loads of compliments, you need to be careful how you wear the wrap. Buttons on pants, watch stems, rings, etc can cause you to pull a thread. To be plain, no yarn has broken and the front side still looks great. Also, you may need to touch up the corners of the binding to tuck in any loose threads and bits of yarn. January 3, 2013
Beautiful Cape This cape kept me warm on the chilly days in Europe. It is beautiful. It's only negative is the inside yarns are easily caught and pulled. I am having my cape lined at the tailors to prevent this from happening again. December 15, 2012
Stunning piece I got this to wear on a Thanksgiving weekend trip to the Oregon coast, and I've been receiving compliments everywhere. The picture doesn't do it justice. The colors are beautiful & muted, it goes with just about everything & it is SO warm. I haven't had a problem with the threads pulling. Very pleased with my purchase. November 24, 2012
Love the look, but... Love the look, fit and functioin. BUT, like others, the loops catch SO easily htat I must return it. Love to see another simiilar cape/throw, with a better finish. November 19, 2012
Beautiful Cape Ths is so beautiful..but like the previous reviewer, I also have had problems with threads on the inside pulling. I wore NO accessories and found that even my own fingers were getting caught in the loops of yarn inside as I pulled the cape around me. I like the previous reviewers idea about having a lining sewn in...great idea. Still a beautiful cape, worth the money but dislike the threads on the inside catching on everything. October 30, 2012
Pulled threads first time worn This is a beautiful, soft item, and I was very happy to receive it last week. However, the knitting is very loose, and on the inside some of the pieces of yarn are over an inch long. This morning I wore it for the first time and within the first hour I have snagged it on something or another twice and pulled the yarns into unsightly loops (one inside, and one outside where it is more visible). I have several items from Bolivia and this is often the problem. I'm debating whether or not to return it. Travelsmith, you need to buy items with a tighter weave!!!! October 16, 2012
Gorgeous Alternative To Regular Outerwear I loved the way this cape looked online, but was cautious since reality often does not match the advertisement. However I decided to take a chance on this cape and I am happy to say this is one time when the advertisement does not do the item justice. The cape is gorgeous, with the colors being rich yet muted enough to allow for numerous styles and colors to be worn with it. It's also very light-weight yet warm, which is perfect for those times when you want something warm but hate the idea of lugging a 50-pound jacket along. The only downside is I'm allergic to wool and so this is still a bit itchy although nowhere near my usual five-alarm reaction. Since that's just around the neck area a scarf will take care of it and honestly that has more to do with my uber-sensitive skin than any fault of the manufacturer or the cape itself. This cape is a keeper and I can already tell I'll be wearing this thing for years to come. I hope Travel Smith does more of these in other shades and fabrics, because if they do I'll buy them all. WOW! The picture does NOT due this justice! It is beautiful, can be worn with just about any color. The price on this is a great buy. I am getting ready to travel in October, and this will be my airplane cuddle, sweater & jacket for fall weather. If I have a problem with threads pulling, (see other review) I will hand sew in a light weight washable stretch wool fabric when I get back. September 18, 2012
