Voyager Vest 4.4 5 107 107
Disappointed Great idea, but TS missed the boat on the one. I agree the seam down the front makes the zippered pockets extremely difficult to open and close. Also, the bellowed pockets are too small at the top where they are tacked down making it difficult to get things in and out. I took another reviewer's tip and took the tacking out on one side of the phone pocket and one side of a front bellowed pocket. Although that expanded the opening of both, the velcro taps closing them wouldn't stay shut, so I ended the experiment by resewing down the tacking, although not quite as tight as before. Obviously after my "alterations" it's mine to keep. Fortunately I bought it on sale. If you are considering this vest as an alternative for carrying a purse, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Excellent Vest I have actually purchased 2 of these vests. I bought one to wear on Safari in Kenya in November and it was perfect. I weigh 120 pounds and I bought the Small....it fit perfectly and allowed me to wear shirts under it. The number of pockets were so helpful. I was able to keep my Passport, extra batteries & my cell phone on my person at all times. I literally wore it every day for 2 weeks....Just loved it. I bought it in Green, as the Sand color was out of stock. I just recently purchased my 2nd vest in the Sand color, and I will wear it as a part of my uniform as a Docent at a local zoo. I have already affixed the Zoo patches to it and it is now a part of my Zoo uniform. It's made for women and fits wonderfully. Love this for the fit and the value. March 7, 2014
Finally, lots of pockets I really am very happy with this vest. It's a substantial material, so it doesn't feel flimsy. I immediately packed my cell phone, cash, sunglasses, keys, and credit cards, and put my purse back. Will be out of the country this year, and was looking for an alternative to a hidden money belt which can be annoying, and can also feel like it has slipped off, so this vest will be ideal for passport, etc. Another reviewer said it might be too hot for warm climates, I agree, but for cooler temps will be fine. Bought this one before the sale, and glad I bought another one during the sale. March 22, 2014
looks sharp and fits well I am a small woman who often swims in outer wear. This vest is just the right length to wear with shorts or jeans and still look neat and pulled together. The look is polished and crisp but the fabric is soft. I bought it to wear on a safari but also intend to make good use of it on our treks through wooded areas and mountain trails. Pockets are a good size, not too bulky, and well placed. I looked at a lot of styles from various venders and think I found just what I wanted at a price significantly lower than other vests of this quality. March 24, 2014
I am wearing this everyday. I bought this vest for a safari trip. But I cannot take it off ..i wear it around the house, walk the dog, shopping and everywhere. the material is nice, the cut fits, and the style is practical and flattering. I did order another more expensive vest from TS. THis one is better made, better fabric, and better design. I sent the other one back. March 27, 2014
Comfortable and great pockets! Ended up wearing this nearly every day of my recent trip, so I could leave my purse behind. Perfectly positioned inner pockets to keep my wallet and passport safe from pickpockets but easily accessible to ME when needed. My travel companion had a money belt around her waist & under her clothes, which made access to show ID or pay for purchases an embarrassing contortion act. She went online & ordered a vest like mine the moment she had the chance! Vest also has roomy outer pockets for cell-phone, coin purse, keys, and sunglasses. The velcro closures on outer pockets are noisy & have a tendency to snag delicate fabrics, otherwise I would give 5 stars. Price is relatively high, but excellent workmanship/value. just what I wanted I got this to tote stuff around without having to carry a purse. True, the phone pocket will not hold my smart phone, but if I smoked, it might hold a cigarette pack. It has plenty of pockets and that's what I need. March 26, 2014
Voyager Vest vs. Ex Officio FlyQ Vest In preparation for an upcoming trip to Asia, I had been checking out various companies for women's travel vests and was happy to find the different types offered by TravelSmith. I was torn between the Voyager Vest and the Ex Officio FlyQ Lite, so I ordered both because of TS's liberal return policy. I ordered the Voyager V in medium (based on other reviewers) and ExO in large (because I was worried that it might be a tight fit). My order arrived in a week with normal shipping and I took both vests on my trip. Here's what I found: The Ex Officio vest's pockets are GREAT! I wore it on the plane and felt that my passport, tickets, wallet and cash were safe inside the zipped inside pockets. Plus I had room for my phone, chapstick, hand cream and misc other things I wanted handy for the long flight. The outer fabric is lightweight though a bit stiff, like canvas. And the inner linings for the many pockets, as well as the velour-ish collar, made the vest a bit heavy and warm. Though I wore the EO vest on the plane, I didn't wear it during the other parts of my trip because it would be too warm in the 80 degree weather. PS, the large was too big for me (5'4", normally size 6/8) A medium is probably right Voyager Vest -- so instead I wore the VV during my trip bc the fabric was softer and more flexible and seemed lighter even though the actual weight may be very close. The fit was good -- medium was not too snug but not loose. The pockets on the VV, however, were much fewer and less practical, as many others have already noted. There are 4 inside pockets, but only one zips and it is barely large enough to hold USD cash flat and unfolded. I managed to put my passport and some cash in that zipped pocket. The foreign cash was longer than a dollar bill so couldn't fit into the zipped pocket without folding, which makes the vest look bulky. The other inside pockets were only secured by a velcro patch and any bills would block the closure. As others' note, the top pockets need two hands to zip, though on the plus side, that makes them secure, and the patch pockets have major velcro that are noisy to open. I did use a seam ripper, as another review recommended, to make the little cellphone pocket useable, but that also required a bit of re-stitching even with the greatest care, which was no big deal. The fabric was a little lighter to wear but on a couple days that got even warmer, I didn't use this vest either and instead turned to a lightweight travel shirt with zip pockets. Since I got the vests on sale, I decided to keep both because they serve different purposes. I am exchanging the large EO for a medium, which I'm guessing will still be roomy. Bottomline -- they're both well-made and great products, and a good value compared to other vests out there. I recommend both for weather that is ~72ish degrees or less. They both look like vests, can't get around that, but are comfy, incredibly functional, and about as neat as a travel vest can look. I love my new vests! April 4, 2014
