Women's 11-Pocket Voyager Vest 4.4 5 121 121
Why do they sew the top of the outside pockets? This is a nice travel vest with a lot of useful pockets. I am puzzled about one thing. They have these nice large outside pockets but have chosen to sew the top quarter inch of the pockets through all of the layers which makes the opening to these roomy pockets much harder to get larger objects in and out. For example you can place a medium size paperback book in the outside pockets but not a large paperback. This is easily fixed by using a seam ripper or small pair of scissors and getting rid of the top quarter inch of the top seam on either sides of the outside pockets (be careful you don’t cut through the seams that keeps the pocket attached to the vest or punch a hole through the fabric) which allows for the pocket to be opened fully and for you to be able to hold much larger objects. This is especially true for the outside cell phone pocket, if you don’t open these seams I guarantee there isn’t a big enough opening to slip in your cell phone. It would be so easy to exclude this extra top seam and make these pockets even more useable without making the vest look less stylish. I certainly hope Travelsmith considers this modification in the future. January 10, 2012
Love the vest but medium size is too large Women’s Voyager Vest (original with 11 pockets) Olive Small and Medium Normally have no trouble with sizing from anyone, including Travelsmith. My build is 5’5”, 135 pounds, 38C bust. I always prefer a loose fit for a shirt, vest or jacket. I also do not like carrying purses but take a lot with me so this vest seemed to be just what was needed. More pockets as in the men’s version would be appreciated but the trim look of the women’s style is nicer. I knew the men’s medium would be too large and there was no men’s small offered and there was no 15 pocket version for women at that time. (There is now). Thus, reading reviews that the Women’s Voyager vest ran slightly large the medium vest was purchased for an upcoming cross country train trip where we can’t take much luggage. However for a medium this is very large and in spite of the slim cut looks baggy on me. I was disappointed. So I ordered the small to replace it. It arrived just in time, a couple of days before our trip. But disappointment again, the small was too tight! I decided to take the medium on our trip anyway and purpose wise, it filled the bill exactly. A larger pocket like the men’s that could fit my Samsung Galaxy 10.2 Tablet was missed though. We are glad a sweater will fit under the vest, but the medium is still not a good fit. Even my husband said it looks too large on me. Since you have no other choices I like the functionality of the design enough that in spite of it being too large I will be keeping the medium and returning the small but will always be wishing that it fit correctly. Great quality This garment is more substantial than I realized it would be, without being heavy. For some reason I had thought it the fabric would be thinner than it is. The fabric is soft and smooth to the touch, making it feel a bit luxurious. It is lined in mesh and there are some inside pockets in addition to the outside ones you can see in the photo. The zippers on the outside pockets on the upper chest only allowed the pockets to open half-way when I first tried them, but after I ran the zipper back and forth a few times I was able to get the pockets fully opened (it was if there was a thread or stitch in the way of the zipper, at first.) It is a bit loose on me, but that is fine because I want to be able to stuff a lot of things in the pockets. August 1, 2014
Very functional This vest is perfect for my trip to Africa in September? Love all the pockets and the drawstring at the waist to give it shape. The hidden pockets in front are a nice touch. August 10, 2014
Comfortable and great pockets! Ended up wearing this nearly every day of my recent trip, so I could leave my purse behind. Perfectly positioned inner pockets to keep my wallet and passport safe from pickpockets but easily accessible to ME when needed. My travel companion had a money belt around her waist & under her clothes, which made access to show ID or pay for purchases an embarrassing contortion act. She went online & ordered a vest like mine the moment she had the chance! Vest also has roomy outer pockets for cell-phone, coin purse, keys, and sunglasses. The velcro closures on outer pockets are noisy & have a tendency to snag delicate fabrics, otherwise I would give 5 stars. Price is relatively high, but excellent workmanship/value. The most Feminine travel vest out there After trying a women's Scottevest first, I ordered both the Sand and Charcoal in the Voyager vest. I'm happy with them. I like the fabric a lot more than I thought I would from the photo, and there are certainly enough pockets for me. The cell phone pocket is too small for my phone, and I wish the front pockets were less obtrusive. I like the princess lines and the waist can be cinched up a bit in the back to give a more defined waist if you want (which I liked, since the XS was still too big). I usually wear a 4/6 in most clothes and found the XS vest still a bit too roomy, but it will work. Certainly much better fit than others I’ve tried. I could do without the pockets in the chest area. There could be a few more inside pockets in the waist area. The Velcro is a bit loud, but I guess you could consider that a safety feature! I recommend this vest. I think you will like it! I can't wait to be purse-free on our trip. April 14, 2010
Excellent product. I highly recommend! And this is after 11 days of traveling in Peru . July 29, 2014
Excellent value if you get the right size I wanted a vest for two main purposes: travel and photography. I don't like to carry a purse very often because when I am travelling with my small child, my mind is occupied by other things. I can carry all of my essentials, wallet, phone, etc without worry. I also like to carry my camera with me so it is great to have pockets for memory cards, filters, and other small handy items within easy reach. I researched many other travel vests and found this one to offer the best value for balancing features and price. Most of the others that I found didn't offer as many pockets and one that I found with only slighly more pockets was about double the price. The only major drawback is that the vest runs a little large. I normally wear a small (size 6) and ordered the extra small based upon the feedback from other customers and my experience with other Travel Smith products. The extra small is the right fit for me.
