Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 81 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Safari Jacket Almost an exact replica of the WW2 British Field Jackets. Very classy when properly pressed. Have bought and worn two of these great coats. Presently wearing my thrid. ZOCK September 23, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Go-To Jacket The Fit: As previous reviewers have noted, the jacket runs large. I’m 6 foot, 190 lbs., and typically wear a 42R jacket; the medium size of this Safari Jacket fits perfectly. Sleeve length and fit are perfect, with an almost tailored feel. I can comfortably wear a dress shirt under it, but a heavier sweater would make the jacket too tight. The Quality: Some reviewers have had issues with the buttons. While I have noticed some of the buttons loosening a bit after having worn it several times, they don’t seem to be in danger of falling off. The cotton poplin feels great, the khaki color is true to TravelSmith’s photos. While the TravelSmith photos show a “Craghoppers” label and what appears to be a light fabric lining, my Safari Jacket’s label is simply “TravelSmith,” and has no liner. As to the liner, I don’t miss it. This has become my favorite jacket. I’ve worn it on winter desert hikes in Southern Nevada, but primarily as an everyday jacket capable of carrying everything one needs during the day. This will be my go-to travel jacket from this day forward. March 4, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great jacket - regardless Great jacket, for all the reasons already mentioned - looks, material, workmanship, functionality. Only one problem: I have long arms, so I had to get the Large size. The arms fit fine, and would have been too short with a smaller size, but the rest of the jacket is a bit baggier than I'd have referred. A "long" size, one size down, would have been perfect. Maybe it'll shrink a bit in the wash. Still, I'm very happy, and would order the same jacket, same size, again. Despite the cost, see below, it's still worth it, especially when you compare the competition. Beware customs duty: I'm in the EU, and customs charged $47.00. S&H was $30.00, so European customers end up paying 55% more than U.S. list. Another thing: TravelSmith ought to make international ordering much easier. It's quite frustrating as it now is. Rated 3 out of 5 by EVERY button fell off EVERY single button unraveled and had to be resewn on..Not exaggerating ! Every single button !! They started unraveling and falling off 3rd time I wore it. 40.00 at my tailor to resew all them back on......very aggravating. Just no excuse for that....whats next, a sleeve...... 1st purchase from Travel Smith, is this what to expect. Two zip inside security pockets. so small, what are you going to put in them...a few dollars, maybe a passport....how about a secure breast pocket or two? April 21, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Handy Jacket I'm pleased with this jacket. It's true to size and drapes well. I bought it to replace a worn-out Cross Country jacket (so old it had the leather trim on the cuffs). The poplin weave is tight enough to shed a little drizzle. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at how heavy the fabric is. I work for a hospice agency and most of my coworkers dress in scrubs. I'm a chaplain and required to dress "business casual," slacks, polo shirt, etc. A blazer or sports coat is OK, but almost too dressy and often impractical. I drive 30-100 miles a day visiting patients and needed some kind of jacket that looked OK if it was a bit rumply. So far this jacket has been perfect. March 31, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the best Safari Jacket there is. This is the real thing! I bought one of Travelsmith's Bush Poplin Safari Jackets back around 1990. It was my favorite, and I wore it to the point that you could almost see through the fabric (though it never did tear!). The one I have just received is even better quality manufacture than the first one! The "bush poplin" fabric is heavier, stronger, all the buttonholes are re-enforced; it has epaulettes - for holding gear bag straps on the shoulder - and straps and buttons for holding the sleeves rolled up. Since Willis & Geiger (who invented the Safari Jacket for President Teddy Roosevelt in 1904. They also invented the "bomber jacket".) went out of business in the 1990s, Travelsmith's is simply the best Safari Jacket on the market. March 22, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Jacket for travel I needed a jacket when travelling with the family that could hold all the passports/documents securely, this is exactly the the jacket I was looking for. Comfortable natural fiber and even more comfortable after being washed, wouldn't hesitate in recommending. March 30, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love This Jacket in spite of One Flaw For the last two years, my husband has searched for a well-made, fine-looking, neutral-colored jacket with deep, straight, front pockets (not the slanted, hand-warmer ones). He finally found Travelsmith's Safari jacket. The color is not too light and compliments any casual outfit. The fabric looks new, not washed-out, and the jacket feels substantial even though it is unlined. Although we wondered if the dark brown, contrast, button-hole stitching would draw too much attention, it is really quite subtle and complimentary. The length works well when a little extra coverage is desired. We gave the quality rating only 4 stars because, after only a month's wear, one of the large, front buttons came off while two others began unraveling. One replacement button of each size is provided. The smaller, pocket buttons look secure, but, unless reinforced, all buttons will need to be checked often. In spite of this flaw, my husband is very satisfied with his purchase and would readily buy this jacket again or in another color. October 4, 2011
