Bush Poplin Safari Jacket 4.1 5 63 63
Love This Jacket in spite of One Flaw For the last two years, my husband has searched for a well-made, fine-looking, neutral-colored jacket with deep, straight, front pockets (not the slanted, hand-warmer ones). He finally found Travelsmith's Safari jacket. The color is not too light and compliments any casual outfit. The fabric looks new, not washed-out, and the jacket feels substantial even though it is unlined. Although we wondered if the dark brown, contrast, button-hole stitching would draw too much attention, it is really quite subtle and complimentary. The length works well when a little extra coverage is desired. We gave the quality rating only 4 stars because, after only a month's wear, one of the large, front buttons came off while two others began unraveling. One replacement button of each size is provided. The smaller, pocket buttons look secure, but, unless reinforced, all buttons will need to be checked often. In spite of this flaw, my husband is very satisfied with his purchase and would readily buy this jacket again or in another color. October 4, 2011
Poplin Safari Jacket Review First, I just got it and haven't used it for traveling to Europe which is my intent. I normally wear Large in polos and tees so I first ordered a L which was way too big. Returned it for a medium which is fine. I had hoped the larger pockets would hold an 8" tablet but the pocket was too small. Fine for an iPhone or 7" inch tablet (I guess). Personally, I like the look of the Jacket and feel. When I return from vacation I may add further comments. I like the product for lots of pockets and it is stylish enough for most days and restaurants. I do pack a blazer and proper shirt for my "formal" outings like certain type events and restaurants. So far the product looks and feels very good. April 3, 2015
Sentimental purchase Had one of these as a kid and always wanted to get one as an adult. Front buttons were loose and one was close to falling off. Brought to a tailor to reinforce the buttons for an additional charge, and Travel Smith gave me a partial refund to cover the cost of button reinforcement. April 8, 2015
disappointed The jacket was larger than expected and heavy. Not what I had in mind. I will be returning it. April 7, 2015
Second one ordered I bought my husband this jacket several years ago and he wears it all the time and takes it on every trip. It still looks great but I decided he needed a new one for his birthday so I got a second one. March 26, 2015
WELL MADE, BUT DISAPPOINTING GARMENT I purchased the Travel Smith Safari Jacket to wear while traveling by air, hoping that the pockets were large and numerous. I have learned over the years that the easiest way to get through airport security lines is to have a jacket or vest with multiple capacious pockets (including some interior pockets that zip) so as to be able to stow everything that would otherwise go into a plastic tray in a pocket. When I get to the head of the line, I simply toss my jacket and shoes in the plastic tray -- this makes life much easier for me to get through the security hassle and makes life much harder for for the dishonest TSA types who might want to steal my wallet, camera, passport, watch, etc.. I was very disappointed when my Safari Jacket arrived to find that there were very few pockets and that those few pockets were uniformly too small to be of much practical use. Basically, this is a garment geared to appearance and not to practical application. The Jacket appeared to be sturdy and well made, though -- but it did not fulfill my needs or expectations, so I returned it. August 7, 2013
Bush Jacket Ordered the poplin bush jacket to wear on a trip to England this spring and have been quite pleased with it so far. I normally wear a large and ordered a large. The jacket fits very well and I was surprised at the number and depth of the pockets. I have worn it in a light rain and discovered that the water just rolls off. The material and the workmanship seem to be of good quality, although I have only worn it a few times. The other feature that I think will be great is the ability to roll it up in a backpack or suitcase and pull it out without it looking all wrinkled. February 3, 2015
Wasn't quite right but best customer service ever Bought this for my husband for Christmas and when he tried it on Christmas Day he said it was fine. However when he first had a chance to wear it in April (we live in Michigan!) it wasn't fine. He's kind of "portly" and the medium was too snug around the waist #couldn't get it buttoned# but too broad in the shoulders. We didn't want to exchange for a large because it would have been way too big in the shoulders. I called TravelSmith for a return 5 months after I purchased it. We no longer had the receipt or the packaging, but it was absolutely no problem to return the jacket. This is the second time I have had to return something months after ordering and each time the customer service was fabulous! I never worry about ordering from TravelSmith because I know they will stand behind anything they sell. Good job folks! April 13, 2014
