ExOfficio FlyQ Lite Vest 5 5 3 3
Ex Officio FlyQ vs. Voyager Vest In preparation for an upcoming trip to Asia, I had been checking out various companies for women's travel vests and was happy to find the different types offered by TravelSmith. I was torn between the Voyager Vest and the Ex Officio FlyQ Lite, so I ordered both because of TS's liberal return policy. I ordered the Voyager V in medium (based on other reviewers) and ExO in large (because I was worried that it might be a tight fit). My order arrived in a week with normal shipping and I took both vests on my trip. Here's what I found: The Ex Officio vest's pockets are GREAT! I wore it on the plane and felt that my passport, tickets, wallet and cash were safe inside the zipped inside pockets. Plus I had room for my phone, chapstick, hand cream and misc other things I wanted handy for the long flight. The outer fabric is lightweight though a bit stiff, like canvas. And the inner linings for the many pockets, as well as the velour-ish collar, made the vest a bit heavy and warm. Though I wore the EO vest on the plane, I didn't wear it during the other parts of my trip because it would be too warm in the 80 degree weather. PS, the large was too big for me (5'4", normally size 6/8) A medium is probably right Voyager Vest -- so instead I wore the VV during my trip bc the fabric was softer and more flexible and seemed lighter even though the actual weight may be very close. The fit was good -- medium was not too snug but not loose. The pockets on the VV, however, were much fewer and less practical, as many others have already noted. There are 4 inside pockets, but only one zips and it is barely large enough to hold USD cash flat and unfolded. I managed to put my passport and some cash in that zipped pocket. The foreign cash was longer than a dollar bill so couldn't fit into the zipped pocket without folding, which makes the vest look bulky. The other inside pockets were only secured by a velcro patch and any bills would block the closure. As others' note, the top pockets need two hands to zip, though on the plus side, that makes them secure, and the patch pockets have major velcro that are noisy to open. I did use a seam ripper, as another review recommended, to make the little cellphone pocket useable, but that also required a bit of re-stitching even with the greatest care, which was no big deal. The fabric was a little lighter to wear but on a couple days that got even warmer, I didn't use this vest either and instead turned to a lightweight travel shirt with zip pockets. Since I got the vests on sale, I decided to keep both because they serve different purposes. I am exchanging the large EO for a medium, which I'm guessing will still be roomy. Bottomline -- they're both well-made and great products, and a good value compared to other vests out there. I recommend both for weather that is ~72ish degrees or less. They both look like vests, can't get around that, but are comfy, incredibly functional, and about as neat as a travel vest can look. I love my new vests! April 4, 2014
pockets, pockets, pockets My art supplies fit in the large inner pocket in front, extra paper in the back pocket. Love it in grey that goes with everything. Ordered a large because I heard it runs small, and I'm very happy with the fit. April 1, 2014
Great travel vest I saw someone on a trip with a travel vest and have been looking for one ever since. This will be perfect. My only complaint is that I thought charcoal would be a dark gray and it looks more brownish to me. Haven't decide whether to keep it or send it back for khaki colored. September 19, 2014
