Hybrid Travel Jacket 3.8 5 87 89
Great jacket Actually Travelsmith's description is pretty accurate. You can wear this as a sports jacket (although it would look pretty rustic with a tie) and you can wear it as an outdoor jacket (although the button front makes it not a warm as a zipper jacket). The various pockets hold a lot of stuff and it is way less dorky looking than a travel vest as a "wear on/ carry on." The cell phone pocket holds today's super-sized phones, but the hand warmer pockets are a bit shallow so it is best to put your keys in the patch pockets if you are going to be tossing the jacket around. The shipping wrinkles came right out with a few minutes in the drier. I have not had a chance to try putting it in the hotel bathroom while I took a shower but this should work also as it is 100% polyester. All in all, I am very pleased with this jacket. May 19, 2015
Good overall jacket for travel Replaced a windbreaker for travel. Bought a size smaller due to reports runs large. The fit is good except the armpits are very close and tight. I would recommend loosening in that area or installing grommets for ventilation. I have actually done so. It looks good, is very light and a little rain resistant. Layering a sweater and scarf it works from early spring through fall. Very satisfied. May 22, 2015
I Like It Jacket fits good, true to size. It feels lightweight but comfortable. I've worn it mostly in warm to mild weather, and it is a good, casual selection. I've rolled it up and crammed it into my carry-on bag, then when I reached my destination I shook it out and put it right back on. Maybe not the best way to treat it, but that's what happened and it came out ok. The only negative: the lapels do not stay folded like in the picture. When jacket is unbuttoned, they fall open. The buttons on the front of the coat have a small, clear button on the inside as extra backing. However, they reflect light and on the Navy jacket that I have, they really show up. They should have been a dark navy color instead so they would be camouflaged against the material of the jacket. October 26, 2011
Not enough secure pockets Like all travel jackets (not only the ones from Travel Smith) this jacket doesn't have enough secure interior pockets. (In fact, it has only one - the others are not secure). When you travel as a family with two kids, you have four passports, four tickets, four boarding passes, etc., not to mention other documents, credit cards, cash. Also, the jacket arrived very, very wrinkled. I worked on it with my clothes steamer for at least half an hour, and it looks relatively decent now, but I wouldn't pack it in a suitcase. Actually, I bought it because I thought I could wear it on trips and then also, when we get there, to places like fine restaurants, concert halls, even the opera. I hope some day TravelSmith will invent a jacket that combines casual chic with practicality. I decided to keep this one, although it's not what I was expecting. March 17, 2012
Great for travel; not a fashion statement The best that can be said for this jacket is that it is very good for travel and you won't stand out as a tourist--perhaps a Bosnian refugee, but not a tourist. You can wad it up in a ball, give it two shakes, and it's ready to hit the road again. The material is some kind of chemical mix with the advertised silky suede feel, but for the most part (for me) it was a handy vehicle for plenty of pockets; some of which had hidden zippers. It was just light enough for average outdoor temperature but did protect from the evening cool during the summer. After a 14-hour flight and you don't know what time it is (or even day), all I wanted was a secure place for my 'papers' that would get me through customs--coming and going. My travel jacket did a great job. This kind of jacket is a great alternative to a 'safari jacket' that advertises you as a tourist, ivory smuggler--or worse yet, a TV journalist. The "hidden" interior pull cord was never employed for a fit improvement, but I doubt it would have made much difference. This (let me repeat) is not a fashion statement--it's just a good summer weight jacket with lots of pockets and easy to maintain. Wash it up in the sink, hang it overnight, and it's all set. An essential part of my travel wardrobe I own three of the Men's Hybrid Travel Jackets, one in Navy, one in Tan, and my most recent on in Olive. They are absoultely great for travel. My Navy version is the oldest and has done the most treveling to Europe, South America and most recently to China. As a reseracher I have worn them to make formal presentations at National and International meetings and to go to places where coat and tie are required. They a a very practical item that is easy to back or to waer on a plane. The Men's Hybrid Travel Jacket is an essential part of my travel wordrobe. I don't leave home with out one. October 4, 2011
Great comfortable jacket My husband bought this jacket nearly 10 years ago and wore it to extreme thinness. he ordered the same size (he's the same size) and it was too small so exchanged for next larger and it fits perfect like the old one. He loves to wear it on trips to Europe--sleeps in it and it looks great when he arrives. No wrinkles ever and has a great casual look with jeans! wonderful product March 26, 2010
all around jacket For the money it is hard to beat this jacket, and I appreciate that it comes in long sizes. If travel plans do not include formal occasions, this jacket can do triple duty. It looks good with a tie or t-shirt and casual slacks or jeans, it has a top button to keep out the wind on a 50-degree day, and it is waterproof. I've even found a use for nearly all of the pockets. Having this jacket lightens my suitcase and keeps me in the carry on category, even for longer trips. April 23, 2010
